There is a relational aspect with God and too often we replace God with idols in our land of plenty. May we depend on God the Father and not worldly desires. As we pray this week for revival as individuals, Grace church, Christ’s churches in the U.S. and the world, may we use Psalm 80 to direct our prayers.
In Psalm 80, the psalmist asks “Restore us, O God” four times in the chapter. This was written at a time of trouble in Israel and when God’s help seemed distant and uncertain. Verse 3 is useful as a prayer.
Too often we ask God to change our circumstances when we should be asking for our character to change. “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins maybe blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,” (Acts3:19). We should ask the Lord’s favor for conversion “And we shall be saved!”
In verse 7, again the psalmist asks, “Restore us, O God of hosts;”. Here it is noted He is the God of hosts and our prayer should acknowledge the need for God’s mercy and saving grace for everyone.
Verses 14 – 18 it is written “Return we beseech You, O God of hosts;”. God has done so much for us, let us pray He will look upon His church and provide us His mercy and saving grace. May we put our sins on Christ. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.
Verse 19 says “Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;”. Praise God that He can do all things – even bring blessing and deliverance to His people. Pray that God will free us from our anxiety and envy.
