Ryan and I thought we would clarify the plan for youth group, as it fits in with the new Sunday evening “Cornerstone” gathering. As you’ve heard, Cornerstone goes from 5-6:15 pm on Sunday’s, with dinner being from 5:00-5:30 pm, and then teaching and discussion from 5:30-6:15 pm.
One misunderstanding that we want to clear up is this: Cornerstone has not “canceled” or taken the place of youth group. We felt it was important to have our whole church, youth included, participate in first few Conerstone gatherings. However, starting this week, youth group will resume, from 5 – 7 pm on Sunday nights. This will require a few changes:
1. We would like the teens to eat with the rest of the church family, from 5-5:30 pm. This is to help our teens build relationships with an older and mature generation, and share life stories between the generational gap of our church. This is a good and worthy cause!
2. On some Sunday evenings, the youth will join the rest of the church in the teaching, because the subject of that evening would be considered universally applicable to everyone, teens and older folks included. Following a combined teaching time such as this, the youth will still stay for games and fellowship afterward, until 7 pm.
And the Wednesday gathering at the Brown’s will carry on, as we have previously.
So to sum up: on a normal Sunday night, the only things that will change for the youth is that 30 minutes of dinner, from 5:00-5:30 pm. And on some nights, their instruction will be with the larger church. With these changes, the “loss” is minimal, but the gain is that they are better known in the church, and know the church better as well.
